About UsThe Department of Geography aims at a fuller understanding of cultural and natural phenomena by analyzing landscape patterns and processes. In this sense geography overlaps other social sciences, including history, economics and environmental sciences, as well as natural sciences, such as geology and biology. We thus depart from the traditional understanding of geography which is limited to a simple description of the earth. Geography at Fatih University is, therefore, a holistic combination of physical and human geography, including aspects of biology, chemistry, physics, history, sociology, anthropology, and international relations. Our students in the Undergraduate and Master's Degree Program in Geography are expected to be able to work in an interdisciplinary setting and understand the relationships and processes between the disciplines listed above in order to fully comprehend geography.
Our education program fully expects students to become versatile with the research tools of geography, with a strong focus on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and statistical analysis as well as fieldwork and original data collection. Geography at Fatih University has a strong emphasis on applicability within the local community, often interacting with local municipalities and engineering departments.
Recent graduates students can find job very easily. Our students are expected work closely with companies and municipalities in selecting and developing their education. The following are examples of job titles of employment for geographers in Turkey and abroad:
